024.5—Recycling to Save our Planet |OR| How to be Cheap and Look Great
After: Thaaaat’s better. I accidentally stumbled on a neat lifehack today; I always try to keep my clothes even after I’m tired of them just in case I have a brilliant idea for incorporating them into my wardrobe again and today I did! Okay, maybe it’s not brilliant but the fact that I’m wearing a shirt I haven’t worn in over a year should be considered a victory.
Here’s how: Get an old top that is maybe too big for you, maybe sort of long with maybe wide sleeves and maybe a nice pattern. Cut the front panel of shirt in half from the collar to the bottom, so now you’ve basically got a buttonless button-down. Pull one or both of the sleeves over your head (I wasn’t kidding about how wide they need to be) and play around with it until you’ve either created something you love or ruined a perfectly good shirt.

022—Jeggings, jeggings, jeggings!

Can I say it again? I’m going to— jeggings.
These are one of the biggest breakthroughs (in my opinion) in plus fashion since the waist belt. Ever wanted to wear a skinny jean but couldn’t find anything that fit you properly? The leg wasn’t skinny enough or the waist/thigh was too skinny; either way, you left the store feeling dejected and under-dressed. Well now the search is over.
Jeggings are exactly what they sound like, leggings that are designed to look like jeans. You are likely to encounter some really unconvincing pairs on your search but there are also pairs that have pockets and zippers and are, for all intents and purposes, real jeans with supernatural stretching powers.
Jacket and shirt from Urban Planet, jeggings from Wal-mart (but you can get them at the Bay and tons of other shops too.)
Jeggings, despite the mildly trashy impression I got of them on first glance, have been praised by many fashion magazines and websites and they’re quickly becoming a wardrobe staple.
The best part? I give these bad boys a 4 for comfort, and a 5 for utility— because, come winter, us Canadian girls have the opportunity to transform our leggings into long-johns for warmth. Jeggings.

New Vlog! The Plus Tango, I talk about the difficulties of finding plus size clothing in mainstream malls and why not selling plus sizes counts as “doin’ it wrong.”

021—Revisiting the Anchor effect OR This is so much better than the last time I wore that dress.

No description today, today you just get a picture for two reasons.
1.) I’ve already gone over pretty much everything I could say about this outfit: anchor effect, waist belt, comfy.
2.) I feel pressured by Tumblr’s laconic nature and self-conscious about the amount of text I usually come up with for these blogs.

020—The No-Poo Method (video)

Recently I decided to try this neat hippie hair thing where you don’t shampoo and it somehow makes you hair better. I ended up doing it for about a week and a half, but I know I cheated at least once during that time. I really don’t think this method offers everything it claims to, but try it if you want; it might work differently on various hair types and cuts.

019—I’m a Little Bit Rock’n’Roll

Honestly, who didn’t see this coming? Yes, I got one of the nu-vintage black and white print tank tops, I think they’re cute, and I think the only reason I’m so defensive about it is because I know this is one of those fashion statements that is going to be considered so incredibly lame 20 years from now.
Tank and skirt from Urban Planet, leggings from Winners, vest originally from Addition Elle but I’ve made some adjustments to it, necklace from H&M.
I like this outfit because it’s something that would make me look twice if someone else was wearing it. It’s no big secret that I like attention and love standing out in a crowd, and I don’t think that’s always a bad thing. When you’re a big girl, people tend to notice you one way or another; I guess my reaction to that is to just run with it and be happy when people look at me
I give this a 3 for comfort because the skirt is still a little tight in the waistband, and I can’t shake the distressed feeling that my arms are out for the world to see, I’m still working on that.
Just a quick one, today! Next week I take a journey to the past and see how some of my old outfits fit me now, and what I can do to jazz them up a bit!

018—Who likes Short-Shorts? (Not me)

I like to stick with a moderate length short simply because I don’t have the legs for anything sassier. But before this summer, I didn’t even own a pair of shorts because I just never felt comfortable in them. The ones I have on here are actually an old pair of pants that really doesn’t fit like pants anymore; so I decided to transform them into a cool oversized-short.
Blouse from Reitmans, corset thing and necklace from Urban Planet, shorts formerly pants from Addition Elle.
If anyone’s interested in a sort-of complicated tutorial on making shorts and a hat out of trousers you can check out Thread Bangers, and definitely check out their other videos for some neat DIY fashion whatsits.
I like this outfit because it is just… hot as balls in my part of Canada right now and I, making the best out of a sweaty situation, decided I could use this opportunity to tan my scary white legs. Thus, shorts! I also like it because I like how the corset effect ended up looking on me.
I give this a 3 for comfort because, while it does keep me from losing 50% of my body’s moisture through my pores, I have to fidget with it a lot. Probably the result of the shorts still being way too big for me. And some day I might shut up about how much weight I’m losing, but not today, folks.
